Aussie Firm Bullish on America’s Online Gaming Laws

Submitted on Wed, 2006-11-15 15:41Speaking at the company's first annual general meeting since going public in July, John Kelly, CEO of Australian-listed Centrebet implied that perhaps the new U.S. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act may not be effectively enforced.

With a new Democrat-dominated Congress, the Republican-initiated legislation could wind up having been a bad bet after all.

Kelly went on to say that because Centrebet never targeted U.S. players, the company would not feel the affects of the American gambling laws which prohibit banks and credit card companies from processing transactions between players and Internet gaming operators.

Kelly also announced that Centrebet too was on the prowl for opportunities relating to mergers and acquisitions, and that the company was holding talks with prospective yet undisclosed Asian partners.
