Major UK Bookmaker Halting Its US Online Gambling Dealings
Submitted on Thu, 2006-09-28 12:02Well-known British bookmaker William Hill is halting its US Internet gambling business this week until the scope and enforceability of state & federal gambling laws in the United States is made clearer.

Until further notice, the company will no longer accept Internet casino and poker wagers from customers with a US address or US-issued credit card. The step follows similar moves already adopted earlier aimed at preventing online betting on sporting events by American residents.
CEO David Harding announced this is the most prudent action to take while the debate in the US Senate over the legality of online gaming continues.
Shares throughout the industry are experiencing dips as some US lawmakers are attempting to ban online gambling. Adding to the uncertainty are US and European officials detaining a number of high profile gaming industry executives.
