Caribbean Stud Poker
Caribbean Stud Poker, also known as simply Caribbean Poker, is basically 5-card draw poker, but instead of competing against other players, in Caribbean Stud Poker you are competing only against the dealer, as you would in Blackjack. This hugely popular game is available on hundreds of online casino websites, and although online casinos feature public Caribbean Stud Poker rooms which comprise a number of other players, the game is nevertheless between you and the dealer. The ultimate goal in a game of Caribbean Stud Poker is for the player to have a stronger hand than the dealer.
How to Play Caribbean Stud Poker
Each round of Caribbean Stud Poker begins with players entering their ante bets. They are then each dealt five cards face-up. The dealer is also given five cards, however, four of them are dealt face-down and only one showing. It's then up to the player to choose whether to challenge the dealer or fold. If the player wishes to fold their hand, all they have to do is click the ‘Fold' or ‘Surrender' button on their screen. Folding, however, results in the player forfeiting their ante bet.
If a player believes his or her hand will beat the dealer's, the player clicks the ‘Challenge' button. Doing this will automatically double the player's ante bet. The dealer's four remaining cards are then revealed and the hands are compared to determine whose is the strongest.
It is important to note that the dealer's hand must comprise an ace and a king in order to be eligible for the challenge. Should the dealer's hand not include an ace and a king, their hand is considered void and the player is awarded a 1 to 1 payoff on the initial ante bet. If, however, the dealer's hand does have an ace and a king, the hands are compared in order to determine the winner of the challenge. If both hands turn out to be of equal value, it's a push and the money is returned to the player.
And the Payoffs are...
Payoff values are determined according to the various card combination possibilities. A royal flush, for instance, will pay considerable more than a pair. The payouts offered by the numerous online casino sites vary from casino to casino. Therefore you'd be well-advised to check out any prospective website's game rules and details before playing for real money.
