Sic Bo

Sic Bo, meaning "pair of dice," originated in ancient China and today is gambling game frequently played in Southeast Asia, Korea, Nevada and Australia. The Chinese also call it Tai Sai or Dai Siu, which means 'Big Small.' In the Philippines, where it's also a popular game, it's referred to as Hi-Lo. Sic bo games are available today at basically every online casino.

History of Sic Bo
Sic bo was brought to the United States by Chinese immigrants at the beginning of the 20th Century. Today one can play it at virtually any U.S. land-based or online casino.

Sic bo is played with three dice. The goal of the game is to guess the individual numbers, or combination of numbers, most likely to appear following the upcoming toss of the dice. Possible outcomes include single die numbers, two-of-a-kind, three-of-a-kind, or combinations of any 2 or 3 of the dice. Payoff combos & payoff odds are posted on a roulette-type table top which is commonly lit up beneath the winning areas to highlight winning combinations.

How You Play Sic Bo

Sic bo is played with players first placing their wagers on what they believe will be the outcome following the rolling of the 3 dice. Once all of the bets have been placed, the virtual dice tumbler is rotated and subsequently set on the table. All winning possibilities of the 3 dice appear lit up on the layout with winning payoffs ranging from 1:1 even money for one-of-a-kind, to as much as 180:1 for a particular trio.

Players are free to place any number of bets on the Sic bo table with the most common wager being "Big," that is, the sum total of the 3 dice shall be 11 to 17, or "Small," where the total equals any number from 4 to 10. Other bets include specific 3-number totals with odds varying from 5:1 to 50:1, specific 2-number combinations, and single-number bets whereby one pays 1:1, two pays 2:1, and three pays 3:1. In some casinos 3 pays as high as 12:1.

Sic bo game variations consist of 'Chuck-a-Luck' and 'Birdcage' which are limited to single-number wagers, sometimes including additional bets which can payoff around 30:1 for "any triple," meaning all three dice reveal the same number. The name "Birdcage" came about due to the similar appearance between the device which rolls the dice and that of a wire-frame bird cage. The dealer rotates the cage which causes the dice to settle on the bottom.
