Another Internet Gaming CEO Detained in U.S.

Submitted on Sun, 2006-09-10 14:16US authorities detained Sportingbet PLC Chairman Peter Dicks early Thursday while he was on a trip to the United States. Details have not been released about the action though it is widely believed Mr. Dicks (64) is being held in relation to possible violation of the 1961 Wire Act which prohibits companies from facilitating the placement of wagers on sporting events or contests.

Earlier this year, David Carruthers, former CEO of BetonSports, was indicted on alleged charges of racketeering, conspiracy and fraud also related to the 1961 Wire Act.

Sportingbet would not say where in the US Peter Dicks was being detained. Trading of the company's shares on the London Stock Exchange has been suspended as requested by Sportingbet officials.
