TIPS FOR PLAYING MAHJONG

It is important to understand the different types of tiles there are. The basics are the 3 sets of suits that number 1-9 x 4 making 108 possible match-ups. Each suite represents characters, circles and bamboos. Then, there are two different types, winds and dragons!

Winds come in: North, South, East and West and Dragons in: Red, Green and White, finally there are bonus tiles that have 8 different flowery designs and are set in two groups that number 1-4 and are called ‘flowers’ and ‘seasons’.

1. Once you have four people online to play the game, the computer then deals 13 tiles to each player. You then, lay down your bonus tiles in turn, and replace them by drawing new tiles. The dealer is the ‘east wind’ and starts the game.

2. The dealer pulls a tile and tries to make a pair, pung, kong, or a chow. A pair represents 2 of a kind of the same tile, a pung is three of a kind of the same tile and a kong is four of a kind of the same tile. A chow is three consecutive tiles of the same suit

3. Once he has finished his turn by placing down his combinations he then discards a tile and the next player takes his turn. If the tile discarded can be used to make a pair, pung, kong, or chow he can click on that tile to take it, if not draw a new tile, lay down his combinations, discard and so on to the next player.

4. To win the round, a player must go out by putting several combinations of the tiles
including a pair down For example three pungs and one chow plus the pair, or one pung and two kongs plus the pair or any other combination.

5. The computer adds up your score and determines who the winner is for that hand. If the dealer won the hand he deals again but if not if the deal goes to the south wind player and the game goes on.
