Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Gamble
A growing number of online gambling website operators are reportedly meeting to discuss ways to further bolster support for Frank's crusade. The so-called "Barney Frank Support Initiative" is expected to kick-off soon with the hopes of garnering enough support among online gaming operators to have the awful Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) repealed.
The online gambling debate, strangely enough, currently crosses party lines. Strange because the UIGEA was a Republican initiative and swiftly endorsed by President Bush. But with both Democrat and Republican parties dancing to the tune of upcoming election votes, where the winds of Internet gaming will blow is anyone's bet. Nevertheless, considering that there are a total of 535 Congressional members, any bookie can tell you how many of them are also gambling online from the comfort of their closets.
Mr. Frank's Republican backers thus far include North Dakota's Representative, Jim Kasper, and Representative Christopher Strow of Washington State.
