Court Dismisses $20 Suit against U.S. Casinos

A federal court judge recently dismissed a $20 million lawsuit filed against several U.S. casino establishments by a female gambler. Arelia Margarita Taveras, a former New York City attorney, tried to prove in court that although the casinos' employees knew she suffered from a gambling addiction, they did nothing to stop her.

The list of casinos mentioned in Taveras' lawsuit includes some highly prominent gaming venues, such as Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, Bally's Atlantic City and the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

U.S. District Court Judge Renee Bumb reportedly wrote that Taveras failed to demonstrate that gambling was a dangerous activity. On her part, the casino gambler said that the she intended to appeal the ruling. She added that over a period of almost two years she managed to lose up to $1 million at the aforementioned casino facilities.
