Is there a difference between chips & cheques?

Chips and cheques are the same thing; those coin-sized plastic disks utilized by gambling folk as a substitute for cash, and with which they place their wagers. Some, like Englishmen, refer to them as cheques while others know them as chips. And then there are those less lucky gamblers among us who call them neither chips nor cheques, but history.
