Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe lies on both Nevada's and California's borders, plus is surrounded on nearly all sides by soaring rocky mountains rising high above tree line levels. At an incredible depth of 1,645 feet (501 metres), Lake Tahoe prides itself on being the second deepest lake in the USA. Only Crater Lake in the State of Oregon is deeper (1,996 feet (608 metres). Approximately 65 per cent of Lake Tahoe's shoreline lies on the California side. Lake Tahoe's Beginnings
It was during the middle of the 1950's that hotels and gambling casinos began to cropping up on Nevada's side of the border.
