Indian Casinos

Looking for a change from the online casino scene, but unfortunately you live too far from a Vegas or Atlantic City? Then Indian casinos are clearly your next best bet.
Indeed the increased demand and consequent growth of gaming venues based on native North American Indian reservations has literally spiralled over the past 20 some odd years. These first-rate casinos perhaps fall short of providing that same electricity one feels in Vegas or Reno etc., but if a real life gambling fix is what you've got a hankering for, you can bet your nearby Indian casino has tons of fun in store for you.

Native Indian reservations across the US benefit from limited sovereignty including the freedom to provide gambling services beyond normal state and federal laws. This, of course, includes land casinos. Indian casinos nowadays offer the entire array of classic table and card games including craps, blackjack, roulette (US & European), poker, keno, baccarat, and - of course - seemingly infinite rows of dazzling slot machines.

US History of Indian Casinos

The US Supreme Court ruled in 1987 that, due to the fact that native Indian tribes were considered autonomous political societies, federally recognised tribes are free to provide gaming services despite regular state laws. Then, in 1988, the US government passed the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), which laid out the guidelines by which Native Indian tribes could manage casinos and bingo rooms.

The primary logic behind allowing America's native peoples to provide casino games was that these societies could then generate further revenues for their communities. Indeed, over time numerous reservations have improved dramatically in terms providing better public services for their people. The building of schools, hospitals, enhancing infrastructure, as well as safeguarding Native American traditions, have all benefited significantly due to casino operations.

Native American Casinos

Today the hundreds of federally recognized tribes are believed to be operating over 350 Indian casinos in the USA. Income generated by these gaming services now totals some $25 billion a year. Connecticut's Foxwoods Casino, run by the Mashentucket Pequot Tribe, is ranked the world's biggest Indian casino. The second runner up is Mohegan Sun which is mere miles from Foxwoods. Bearing in mind that the trend in the US, and Americans' unquenchable thirst for yet more gambling venues, Indian casino operations are slated to enjoy ongoing growth for many years to come.
