Online Casinos Happy About Bad Weather

Submitted on Mon, 2010-02-22 05:54

The bad weather in the Northern United States and Canada over the past few weeks seems to be the cause of a huge rise in the number of players at online casino sites during the same time period. Gamblers seem to stay indoors and turn to online casinos when bad weather hits.

Several surveys were conducted after the storms hit, and online casino operators have admitted to having a 60 percent increase in traffic, on average. People cancelled plans that involved driving and airports told travelers to expect major delays. This left gamblers with lots of time on their hands; so many of them decided to spend it trying their luck online.

One of the online gambling industry's most exploited arguments is that the players can opt to play whenever they please and from the comfort of their homes. January is usually a somewhat slow time for the online casino industry but the bad weather has given the perfect boost to these companies.

Temperatures in some US and Canadian areas dropped to below freezing, but it was not all good for operators. Heavy snowstorms and icy conditions have the potential to disrupt power supplies, leaving PC's and laptops cold and unusable.
