Time to Start Thinking NFL Futures
It’s true that the first games of the 2010-2011 NFL season are over three months away, but it’s not too early for sports bettor to start thinking NFL futures. The NFL previews will be published in about six more weeks and NFL futures are alive and kicking. Here’s a look at your best bets and long shots as far as the 2011 Super Bowl goes.
Best Chances to Win
The two teams that are the odds on favorites to win this year’s Super Bowl are the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. Both are 9/1. Go figure, didn’t both recently win it all and didn’t both appear in last year’s game and aren’t each led by two of the best QBs in the NFL? Futures at this point are primarily based on what happened last season and not on what will happen in the upcoming season. The San Diego Chargers (11/1), Dallas Cowboys (12/1) and New England Patriots (12/1) are all also good bets to win the Super Bowl.
Long Shot NFL Teams
The teams least likely to succeed and win the Super Bowl are the Buffalo Bills, St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers who are all 100/1. The Detroit Lions (90/1), Kansas City Chiefs (90/1), Cleveland Browns (80/1) and Oakland Raiders (80/1) don’t seem to have a shot either.
A Word to the Wise
There are three things to remember as far as NFL futures and the Super Bowl are concerned.
- The longer you wait to make a futures bet, the more chance you have of missing a good deal.
- Futures are especially tough to hit even if you’re Nostradamus.
- Futures are basically “luck” bets.
- Bookies tend to be very conservative when it comes to these odds. They rarely give an up and coming dark horse team a thought.
If you’re going to wager on NFL futures don’t bet the bank. Futures are a side bet and like all side bets, the house holds the advantage. If you do make some futures bets, you should try to make solid decisions not based on odds but based on probability. Then forget about it and enjoy the NFL season. In the end, you can’t control who wins the Super Bowl.
