UK and US at Odds Over Online Gambling
A recent survey conducted in the UK indicates broad consumer support for their government's pro-online gambling stance and actions to license and regulate online operators. The poll was carried out by PKR.com/YouGov.
The research reveals that 63 percent of the approximately 4,500 respondents support Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell's call to oversee and regulate the online gambling industry from within the United Kingdom.
Of non-gambling respondents polled, 14 percent disagreed with the government's plans while 50 percent favor the initiatives. Seventy percent of those polled said they'd trust a casino or poker room that is licensed and regulated in Britain.
This US investigation into Internet gaming operators is expected to cause further friction between the UK and the States concerning gambling.
