Protests and Loopholes Greeting New U.S. Anti-Gaming Legislation

Submitted on Sun, 2006-11-26 09:52Despite passage of the recent U.S. law prohibiting American residents from placing wagers to online casinos and poker rooms, scores of players are said to be finding ways around the ban.

Evidently the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has upset so many Internet gaming fans that an open letter protesting the new legislation has been drafted and presented to Congress, along with the support of the Poker Players Alliance. This non-profit coalition is hoping to pressure Congress into overturning the law.

Students enjoying Internet casino games and poker at college campuses are also saying that although the new law presents obvious obstacles for players, a number of ways are available for getting around the prohibition. One particular deterrent for playing, however, appears to be the uncertainty surrounding players' cash balances at online gaming sites which could be lost due to a site's demise resulting either directly or indirectly from the American government's new game rules.
