Temporary Casino Smoking Ban in Atlantic City
In April the councilor accepted a law which prohibits smoking on the entire casino floor. Nevertheless, the casinos are allowed to establish smoking lounges away from the gambling actions. On Wednesday, at midnight sharp, the smoking ban in the casinos of Atlantic City went into effect, no-smoking signs were prominently displayed and all ashtrays were removed promptly without further explanations.
Although the casino industry objected, the ban will last for at least 12 days (until October 27th) and thereafter can be put on hold for one year.
Afraid of losing even more business due to this ban, the responsible persons pushed for one year delay. The petition was accepted but since the procedure delayed, the deadline exceeded and the ban went into effect anyhow on Wednesday.
