UK not OK with Backing US Gambling Reform

Submitted on Tue, 2007-05-01 08:43The United Kingdom's Remote Gaming Association (RGA) has announced publicly that it has declined to throw its support behind United States House Representative Barney Frank's legislation calling for legalizing and regulating online gaming.

According to the RGA, foreign involvement encouraging any changes in the current legislation could backfire and wind up hampering the process.

CEO Clive Hawkswood has stated that the organization's involvement was unlikely to 'tip the scales' adding that RGA members had a mélange of other reasons for not getting involved. These reasons range from uncertainties concerning share price reactions, to companies refocusing their efforts in other domains.

Hawkswood was replying to recent accusations from supporters involved in the lobbying effort claiming the RGA was failing to demonstrate ample enthusiasm for Frank's proposed legislation.

A Ladbrokes representative supported Hawkswood's position, stating, "It is a question of priorities & resources. There's movement in Europe at the moment, with the EU behind us, so that is what we're concentrating on."
