How can US residents still gamble online?
At the federal level, the U.S. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act - or UIGEA - was passed by the U.S. Congress at the end of September 2006 and signed into law by President George Bush on Friday, October 13th, 2006. The law was slipped-in with the Safe Port Act and forbids American banks & credit card companies etc. from transferring money from would-be Internet gamblers to online casino sites, poker rooms and similar gaming operations.
American players not residing in the U.S. and/or having foreign (non-U.S.) bank accounts are deemed free to play and wager over the Internet. In other words, if you're an American citizen residing in the UK with a British bank account, there is nothing to prevent you from gaming online. This loophole could wind up being altered at any time, so be certain to check back here often for all new updates.
