Go Poker or High? A Tequila Poker Strategy Guide

Tequila PokerTequila Poker is rapidly gaining popularity at online casinos like Europa Casino because it offers a unique opportunity; you choose what game you want to play once you see your cards. We covered the basic Tequila Poker Rules already, so below you can find some strategy for this exciting game. We have also included the Tequila Poker Payout Tables at the end of this article for your convenience.

Strategy for Tequila Poker

With this online casino game, strategy comes into play once you get your first four cards and the tactics are fairly simple.

Play High Tequila if three of your four cards total at least 28 points. If you're below 28, then check your hand for Tequila Poker.

For Tequila Poker, if you have any pair or four cards towards a potential flush or straight, you should bet. If your hand doesn't meet these conditions, then fold.

If your hand meets both criteria, then the choice is yours. Calculate which potential hand will give you the best payout and determine what your outs are. Doing so may help you make your choice, but generally you know you should win some money regardless of which path you choose.

Determining Outs to Help Make Your Decision

"Outs" in poker are the cards you need to secure a winning hand. The more outs you have on hand, the better your chances are of winning the hand or increasing your winnings. With Tequila Poker, you're using outs to determine if you should go for a high or poker hand.

If you hold two pair, then you've won already and any other two pair will result in a payout of 2-1 and three of a kind will give you 3-1. For three of a kind you only have, at best, two outs. But for two of a kind, because you have two other unmatched cards in your hand, you have up to a total of six outs (three for each card).

Eight cards have been dealt this far between you and the dealer, which leaves 44 cards in the deck. With six outs, your chances are about 1 in 7 of drawing a match. In terms of the test for going high, lets say that you hold three cards that total 30 points with the other card being a nine.

In your hand, you're hold the following: J, J, K, 9. Keeping all four cards, anything from 7 up will make you a winner. There are up to 17 cards worth 10 or more and 11 more cards worth 7 of more. That's 28 outs for the high hand. Even if you deduct four cards for the dealer, that leaves you with 24 outs. You also have up 4 chances of hitting 50 points with an ace, garnering a 3-1 payout and you could hit 51 (4-1) or 52 (7-1) points with a combination of four aces and 13 other cards worth 10 points. This is a High Tequila hand.

But if you hold the following J,J,K, and a low card, anything from 2 to 8, then your chances of hitting a 2-1 combination are greatly reduced. The lower that fourth card, the lower your chance is of making 49, 50 or more points. With this type of hand, because you've already won and have a decent chance at making another pair, Tequila Poker is preferred.

If you're on the fence, once you know your outs for a poker hand, you'll need to compare them to the number of points you hold in your hand and the number of outs you have for High Tequila. Then you can make your choice.
